And, as my photo above shows, I am usually surrounded by my collections. For some of us, collecting ranks right up there with comfort food. Sort of a necessity of life.
Actually, I began collecting at the tender age of 5 (many more years ago than 35). My rock and mineral collection is still a delight, and still on display.
6. A former owner of two live antiques and collectibles auctions.
The pictured flyer is the one I mailed out for my December 10, 1986 Americana Auction. This was a monthly collectibles auction held in a hotel conference room.
All of the items offered were mine, there were no consignments. My other auction was weekly, accepted consignments, featured a monthly European container, and was held in my auction house.
The cute little girl is my daughter. She was only one year old.

In the December 15, 1985 issue of The Traveler, I wrote an article about buying and selling collectibles. My principal recommendation was the purchase of the seasonal offering of the Texaco Collector Series 1926 Mack Tanker.
You could buy the replica during that holiday season from any Texaco dealer for only $10.95. I predicted that it would double in value very quickly. But, I was badly mistaken.
Four years later, I sold two of mine for $800 each - not 2 times the investment, but 72 times!

Over the years, I have bought and sold many 1,000's of antiques and collectibles, and I have done so in practically every type of buying and selling venue.
